Mo Town

Mo Town: Geography & Housing

Mo Town is a mid-sized city with five distinct boroughs, each reflecting overarching emotional/thematic states. The Motions and Exacerbators live and work across these boroughs based on their circumstances, families, and roles. Before Capital, these boroughs were connected by community, shared spaces, and the central Community Center. After Capital, they become more isolated, separated by the casino's influence.

The Aesthetic

Everything has a teal tint - buildings, streets, sky, lighting. Before Capital: bright, clear teal. After Capital: darker teal with neon orange/gold corruption from the casino.

The Five Boroughs

Where the motions live.

  • A scene from THE HEART
    Borough 01

    THE HEART

    Central Borough

The theme · Connection, Community, Gathering, Pulse of the City

The emotional center of Mo Town - where people come together, where community happens, where the city breathes.

    Before Capital

The pulse of Mo Town, always alive with people gathering, community events daily, farmers markets twice weekly, street festivals monthly, the heartbeat of the city, circulation flowing, everyone connected

    After Capital

Corrupted center, The Gilt looming and dominating, the heart is sick and struggling, people avoid downtown now (too painful, too changed), circulation disrupted and irregular, the pulse is weak and irregular, community gatherings rare

  • A scene from THE HEIGHTS
    Borough 02

    THE HEIGHTS

    Northwest Borough

The theme · Elevation, Clarity, Perspective, Aspiration, Control

The part of Mo Town that's literally and figuratively higher - where you can see clearly, where structure and order exist, where those who seek control or peace reside, where wealth and poverty coexist on different levels.

    Before Capital

Aspirational but accessible, clarity and perspective available to all, peaceful overlooks, structured but not oppressive, community on the hills

    After Capital

The Gilt is visible from every vantage point (can't escape seeing it, neon pollutes the views), Polish works even longer hours, pressure intensifies, wealth gap widens (rich getting richer, Drift barely hanging on), some areas become exclusive and expensive (pushing out long-time residents)

  • A scene from THE LOWER WARDS
    Borough 03

    THE LOWER WARDS

    East/Southeast Borough

The theme · Movement, Chaos, Overwhelm, Survival, Noise

The working-class, busy, dense part of Mo Town - where life is chaotic, where people are just trying to survive, where the noise never stops, where community used to thrive but now everyone's isolated in the scramble.

    Who lives here

    Before Capital

Chaotic but community support, working-class solidarity, neighbors helping neighbors, busy but manageable, corner stores where owners knew everyone, kids playing in streets (supervised), community pride despite struggles, hustle with heart

    After Capital

Survival mode, overwhelming chaos too much to handle, community fractured and isolated, noise unbearable (Gilt traffic added to existing chaos), everyone rushing (working multiple jobs to survive), corner stores closing (can't compete with casino economy), kids unsupervised (parents working constantly), anxiety and stress everywhere, static in the air

  • A scene from THE MARGINS
    Borough 04

    THE MARGINS

    West/South Borough

The theme · Edges, Transition, Liminality, Hiding, Creation

The in-between spaces of Mo Town - where city meets nature, where old industry becomes art, where people hide or create, where things are unfinished or transforming, where those who don't fit elsewhere find space.

    Before Capital

Creative freedom, safe exploration for kids at Trailhead, alternative spaces for artists, room to breathe and create, community of misfits and makers, abandoned spaces becoming art spaces, nature and urban in balance, affordable haven for those who don't fit elsewhere

    After Capital

More dangerous (less supervision, more desperate people), less supervised at Trailhead (adults working multiple jobs), some areas closed for casino development (Capital buying land for expansion), Shade hides deeper (less safe to be visible), art becomes desperate messages instead of joy, more abandoned spaces (economy struggling), more people pushed to margins (can't afford other boroughs), nature vs. development tension

  • A scene from THE CAMPUS
    Borough 05

    THE CAMPUS

North Edge - Technically Outside City Limits

The theme · Learning, Growth, Exploration, Youth, Becoming

Where young people discover themselves, where knowledge is pursued, where futures are imagined - both hopeful and uncertain, where becoming happens, where you figure out who you are.

    Who lives here

    Before Capital

Symbol of pride, hope, identity, "this is our city"

    After Capital

Capital's mansion looms above it (dominates the symbol), represents how power/wealth are above the people, corrupted landmark

“Before Capital, these boroughs were connected by community, shared spaces, and the central Community Center. After Capital, they become more isolated, separated by the casino's influence.”
